DJ Vs. Food: Zuko Takes On The Whacky Burger At Doogie's

Nine 1/3-pound burger patties. Two rolls. Three different types of cheese. A full pound of toppings, including French fries, onions and peppers. One man, given 20 minutes to finish it all.

This was the scene Friday afternoon at Doogie's in Newington, as rock jock Zuko from The Rock 106.9 WCCC prepared to take on the restaurant's "Whacky Burger" challenge. Did he conquer the tower of meat, or did it conquer him? Read on for the verdict...

"Let's face it, I did say I'd do anything to make it in radio," Zuko joked as he sat down and prepared to meet his match.

After owner Rock "Doogie" Aronheim presented the massive cheeseburger, Zuko immediately dismantled it and attacked the top layer with a fork and knife, explaining that it was too hot to eat with his hands.

"How does it taste?" Aronheim called out. Zuko responded with two thumbs up.

He progressed nicely through the first 10 minutes. "You got this, you got this," diners cheered.

Then he seemed to hit a wall, taking more swigs from his soda and chewing more slowly. He put his head in his hands. "I'm going to throw up if I keep going," he muttered.

As the 15-second countdown approached, he still had two or three patties and two sections of roll to finish. The cheers and shouts of encouragement grew, but he'd had enough. Down went the fork and knife.

zuko.jpg"If you had another 10 minutes, do you think you could have finished it?" Aronheim asked.

"Probably not," Zuko responded. "I hit that wall hard."

He looked more than a little green as he sat back in his chair and tried to catch his breath. "If I had to eat like this once a month, I'd be killing myself," he said. "Eating is supposed to be pleasurable!"

Zuko has taken on several local eating challenges over the past year, and has yet to win. In a previous event at Doogie's, he tied the record for the two-foot-long hot dog challenge, downing five of the oversized franks.

It looks like he hasn't missed to many meals. LMAO.

Maybe that fat slob should start doing this for a good cause

When will Sebastion return?

The glorification of gluttony.

I'll bet his parents are proud. I wonder if he would like the number for my cardiologist?

I agree with Bill + bob -- one thing they DON'T call this guy is "late for dinner"!

Why doesn't WCCC come up with some sort of challenge promotion that will set a POSITIVE example?

Just take a look around when you're out shopping - we don't need any such "promotions" that re-enforce gluttony as desirable behavior!

Thats a lot of food to try to put down in just 20 mins!!!! I couldn't do it. Great try Zuko. You will get em next time!

Sounds like Bill, Bob, Pat and "Blooz1" need to relax.

This is a burger challenge. Good try!
